“The human body is the universe in miniature. That which cannot be found in the body, is not to be found in the universe. Hence the philosopher’s formula, that the universe within, reflects the universe without. It follows therefore, that if our knowledge of our own body could be perfect, we would know the universe.” — Mahatma Gandhi

Did you know that love is essential for people to experience good physical health? To love is one of the most natural biological and psychological emotional behaviors of human beings. Love is comprised of many biological and neurological chemicals, physiological reactions and psychological elements, all working together as nature designed to ensure that human beings become attracted to one another, enjoy sexual intimacy and form lasting bonds. Without this complex system leading to what we identify as love, human beings would cease to exist.
Nutrition and physical exercise are only part of a system of human needs which impacts the overall physical and emotional condition of a person’s health. Love and interpersonal relationships are just as important to consider, nurture and develop as without love and relationships the human frame and spirit can develop various physical and psychological illnesses and diseases. Spiritual teacher and mystic Osho supported this so eloquently when he said, “Just as food is needed for the body, love is needed for the soul.”
Often people focus solely on specific areas of their lives such as their career while excluding important biological and psychological needs such as love. Over time, missing elements essential to life will eventually manifest in ways that will impact the overall quality of life and health of a person. As a holistic nutritionist, I work with people to identify these missing elements from their lives. I then help them focus on creating body, mind and soul balance that can increase happiness, good health, productivity and energy as well as prevent disease. (Read Full Article)

"If we look around the country - look at the statistics, the clear indication is that most Americans are eating in a way that is having many adverse effects on their health,” states Walter Willett, MD, MPH, Dr.PH, Fredrick John Stare Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition Chair, Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health. “Health Coaches can help people understand what healthy food choices are and then help people put those into practice in a way that will have a huge impact on their long-term well-being.” Dr. Willett is a regular faculty lecturer at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the world’s largest nutrition school which trains Holistic Health Counselors / Coaches.
Holistic Health Counseling / Coaching is a fairly new field that is steadily growing around the globe. Holistic Health Counselors / Coaches play a vital role in the health care industry by providing positive support, motivation, health education and training to people to help them reverse old habits and conditioning and to help them make healthier nutrition and lifestyle choices. Health Counseling / Coaching is not intended to replace the care of a medical doctor but assists in helping people transition to healthy lifestyles in order to help them prevent or reverse disease and live long vibrant healthy and happy lives. Like personal trainers who offer instruction and support to help people remain accountable to regular exercise programs, Health Counselors / Coaches help people form better eating habits through regular educational training and support meetings. In addition to Dr. Willett, some notable health professionals who are helping train Holistic Health Counselors / Coaches at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and who are also publicly advocating for the field, are Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Joseph Mercola, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Neal Barnard, Marion Nestle PhD, AnneMarie Colbin PhD, Paul Pitchford MS, David Wolfe MS and many others.
Today more than ever, people are very confused about diet, nutrition and health. Often, people (Read Full Article and View Videos)

It is time we put a stop to the corporate manipulation of our food and agriculture policies and farming practices and take back our food! This Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM in New York City, Occupy Against Big Food will be held in Zucotti Park. The organized event will include food policy leaders such as Marion Nestle, PhD and Anna Lappe, MA. According to Nestle, "The food movement's goal is to make the food system healthier for people and the planet. That goal is entirely consistent with the goals of everyone in the Occupy Wall Street movement." Concerns that corporations have profited from poisoning our food supply, monopolizing farming practices and torturing animals are all clearly outlined in the first official statement released by Occupy Wall St.
Over the past several decades, our food has changed more than any other time in history. Large corporate agriculture businesses have crushed traditional family farms into near extinction with the help of our government that has been heavily influenced by Big Food industry lobbyists.
Our government's agriculture and food policies, legislation and regulations have (Read Full Article)
